Hey, I'm Charles.
I'm an artist, songwriter, producer and the founder of Make Your Music.
I spend most of my days writing songs, producing records, making videos, teaching musicians, and figuring out our next family adventure.
I'm based in Montreal, Canada.

How I got here
I started making music in GarageBand in 2011.
At the time, I wasn't thinking about building a music business or teaching anyone how to produce. I just wanted to make songs.

One thing slowly led to another.
I started releasing music.
Then performing.
Then producing.
Then making videos about music.
Then helping other musicians make their records.

Over the years, I've had the chance to tour across North America and Europe, reach more than 200,000 people through YouTube, and have my music and videos streamed and watched millions of times online.
And somehow, after all of that, I still enjoy spending an unreasonable amount of time editing a video, finding a harmony, or a new guitar picking pattern.
The studio
These days, most of my work happens in my studio in Montreal — inside the old RCA Studio Victor complex.
It's the kind of building where you can feel the records that were made there long before you showed up.
It's where I write, record, mix, film, and quietly rework the same eight bars far longer than anyone would recommend.

Teaching
Somewhere along the way, teaching became a bigger part of the work than I expected.
Musicians started asking how I made things — and it turned out the answers were rarely about gear. They were about decisions, and about finishing.
Make Your Music grew out of those conversations. It's the thing I wish existed when I was starting: a clear process, honest feedback, and songs that actually get done.

Help more people make more music.
Outside the studio
Outside the studio, life is mostly family, adventures, and being outside.
We travel when we can, spend a lot of time outside, and just enjoy being in the moment.
